Gulets carry a high place of importance in Turkey due to the important role they play in the tourism industry. The building of gulets and gulet charters provide an important source of employment for the local population, and thereby helps to support the economy in a big way because of the big amount of foreign currency that it brings in.

Gulets are one hundred percent Turkish, being a home grown industry. Around one thousand five hundred gulets carrying Turkish flags were noted in the year 2008 along the Turkish coast; there are many more currently under construction.

Gulet cruises and gulet charters run from the months of April to October; the season is open for 6 months with the period between July and August being the busiest time. Gulets will hardly be available in August because it is such a busy month, so interested parties are advised to book early. At the end of the season in October, many gulets undergo maintenance and repairs, in order to be ready for the next season.
